The Dirty Dozen: Discover the most pesticide-laden products in the market today!

The “dirty dozen” refers to the 12 foods most commonly contaminated by pesticides and other chemicals. Often, they are fruits or vegetables that don’t typically have the skin removed before consumption, like peaches or nectarines. They can also have thin skin, like cucumbers, that can easily be penetrated by chemicals.

Here are the new top 12 foods that should only be eaten if they’re organic:

  1. Apples
  2. Grapes
  3. Nectarines
  4. Strawberries
  5. Peaches
  6. Spinach (and other leafy greens)
  7. Celery
  8. Cherry tomatoes
  9. Bell peppers (and hot peppers)
  10. Cucumbers
  11. Snap peas
  12. Potatoes

As you may have noticed, these are all extremely popular foods. In fact, several are mainstays of the American diet. What family doesn’t purchase celery, apples or grapes for their children? Or make baked potatoes and a little salad to go with dinner? Many of us think washing fruits and vegetables before consumption is good enough; sadly however, it just isn’t. Most people don’t wash their fruits and vegetables long enough or well enough to rid them of pesticides — and if they’ve been absorbed into the flesh of the fruit, there’s really no turning back.

Just remember: If you want to avoid chemically-laden products, always make sure to eat organic.
